  1. Not what you would expect.

Posted by Antonio on 20th Mar 2010

I'm going to write a lot, because there is very, very little info on this Fighting for One Piece game on the web. At least in the english language and if anybody wants to know something about, well here it is.

It is import friendly. The menu is in english.
    Just average music.
Good 3D graphics for the characters and stages they fight in...cel shaded and MOST importantly of all...The characters look just like they do in the anime. Meaning, they do not have a super deformed look to them like they do in the Grand Battle games. They look just like Eiichiro Oda's design. Tall, skinny, and lanky.

There is no real story mode to speak of. Many modes, but no story telling mode. Something like the Super Dragonball Z game in terms of modes.

3D game, but 2D only in terms of movement.

Now to the gameplay. It plays a lot like Street Fighter Alpha or Street Fighter 3.

There is a health meter and a combo meter. Once your combo meter fills up sufficiently enough you hit the triangle button and your character moves at a super fast speed level and begins leaving ghostly trails or better put,...echoed images of his or her own self while moving.
Something like characters in SF alpha or SF3 do when they execute a super combo special. Just like that.
The characters are not commiting special moves, mind you...they are just moving and appearing as they were...but you are still in control of every aspect of your characters movements and attacks.
The square button commits a charged combo that can only be launched up close...and if you catch your opponent with it...the game produces a chance to input any attack pattern you desire, which it will then display in dramatic fashion by executing your attack inputs, but from different camera viewpoints and coupled with great sound effects, to raise the drama of the action.

You can jump, or block high and low with the direction stick or pad.
You can also get dizzied, just like in SF.

The only complaint I really have about it is that there are few characters in the game to play with, when there are so many fascinating characters in the One Piece universe that you would like to see here.
Though there are only around 13 characters and 8 stages, each character has a vast set of moves to learn and master. There are many more moves per character than the instructional booklet shows. It will take you a long time to master just one character's moves.

So, in conclusion, if you are a major street fighter fan and a minor one piece fan, then it is the game for you. If you hate the super deformed look of the grand battle games...then you can play with this one until you get your hands on a one piece unlimited cruise game for the nintendo, like I hopefully will.
