  1. WOW!...just simply,....wow!

Posted by Antonio on 23rd Mar 2010

This 2D sprite fighting game is based on the Sengoku Basara action games which, in many people's opinion, are better than the dynasty warriors games.

And the only thing I have to say about this fighting game is WOW!

If you are a Guilty Gear fan, like I am, you will love this game even more than Guilty Gear.
It is made by the same company that produced the Blazblue and the Guilty Gear games,...Arc System Works.

Okay. Let me describe the graphics. It is on the level of GG accent core plus, if I could compare its graphics to another game, it would be that one.
The character's sprites are super crisp and sharp, and they stay sharp, regardless of how fast they are moving or what degree of action is taking place on the screen. The background graphics are good too and there are nice active images taking place throughout stages. The character's framerates are on the level of guilty gear accent core plus.
The characters are distinctive from one another and highly individual, just like the characters in guilty gear.

The music is good and befitting the theme of the game, which is the story of the Basara warriors. That means it is less heavy metal and more dramatic in style,...but it is not as sharp as you would like it. That goes along with the rest of the sounds, but its barely noticeable. So I can't really complain.

Now for the gameplay. This is what is best about it. In the guilty gear series, the characters have lots of special moves at their disposal, but few normal or regular attacks in their moves set. Which is why when playing GG, you'll have a tendancy to rely on these special moves too much. But in SBX, each character has a much larger array of regular non special moves to use and take to full use. These regular attack moves will beautifully and effortlessly tie into each other AND into special moves(including the one hit death moves), leading to very large combo hit counts, sometimes into the twenties and thirties hit counts(depending on the character).
If that wasn't enough, each character has one or two support characters that can assist you by jumping into the fight at the instant touch of a button,...once certain conditions have been met.

These conditions can vary and take place during your fights, but you'll need to pay attention to these condition requirements to make sure the tide of battle is in your favor. The condition fulfillments replace the defensive options that are found in the GG games,...but SBX still has defensive moves at your disposal, so its not a problem.

The game is very import friendly because the main menu is in english and so is alot of the game.
It is very fast and frenzied...faster than the Guilty Gear games, and the combos more satisfying and strung out.
Has arcade, vs 2p, vs com and challenge modes...including gallery to look at artwork.
Price is pretty good for the high quality of the game.

I highly, highly recommend this game. Especially if you are a Blazblue or a Guilty Gear fan... you've gotta get this game into your ps2 library of games.
